Sandy Wortman receives 2022 Larry Trow Memorial Education Award
Carter BloodCare director recognized for educational excellence in transfusion medicine
Carter BloodCare’s Sandy Wortman has been named the recipient of the 2022 Larry Trow Memorial Education Award.
Presented by the South Central Association of Blood Banks, the award recognizes an individual within the South Central Region who has significantly contributed to the understanding and promotion of transfusion medicine through education. It is named in honor of blood bank educator Larry Trow, M.D.
Sandy has worked with Carter BloodCare for nearly 20 years and currently serves as Director of Reference and Transfusion. She was nominated by Laurie Sutor, M.D., MBA, Carter BloodCare’s Vice President of Medical and Technical Services. Sandy’s dedication to the field of blood banking and the continuing education of students has resulted in significant contributions to Carter BloodCare and the transfusion medicine community.
In addition, Dr. Sutor was honored by the association as 2022 Technical/Scientific Award Lecturer.
The awards were presented May 20 during ENGAGE, the annual conference hosted by the South Central Association of Blood Banks.
